The winning of nurse-patient ratios for major metropolitan hospitals in 2010 was a great advance for safe patient care in public hospitals. However, it’s not enough. Both rural and community nurses continue to struggle to keep their patients safe. In areas like paediatrics and neonatal intensive care, there is an urgent need to guarantee nurse numbers.
NSW nurses are now fighting to extend and improve ratios in all these areas. NSWNMA members campaigned hard in 2013 but the O’Farrell Government has so far refused to improve and extend ratios.
In 2014, our campaign continues. For full details of the campaign visit the NSWNMA campaign page here.
