The ANF is pleased to announce further growth in its membership across the Australian health system – with membership now standing at 220,000.
Federal Secretary Lee Thomas said the ANF was now ranked as one of Australia’s biggest and fastest growing unions.
“This is a milestone for the ANF in terms of our membership growth,” Ms Thomas said today.
“We have continued to attract new membership from a full-range of health settings across Australia, including private and public hospitals, aged care facilities, medical practices and community medical centres.
“Our new members have joined us from right across our nursing family and include registered and enrolled nurses, midwives, assistants in nursing (AINs) and nursing students.”
Ms Thomas said the ANF’s continued growth in membership was the “result of the very successful campaigns we’ve run both nationally and by our state and territory branches, working on behalf of all of our existing and new members.”
“For example, the ANF’s successful Because We Care campaign over the past three years, helped secure a $1.2 billion funding boost for Australia’s low- paid aged care nursing staff as part of the May Budget,” Ms Thomas explained.
“The ANF is now the country’s largest health and aged care union and a force to be reckoned with in the health, aged care, industrial, professional and political areas and we will continue to work hard for all of our existing and new members.”
Ms Thomas said a new national campaign, called “Nurses and Midwives. You couldn’t be in better hands” will be officially launched by the ANF next week.
“The campaign showcases the incredible and invaluable work that nurses and midwives do, day in and day out across Australia. A cinema ad will be supported by TV and radio commercials, posters and a new website,” she explained.
“Real life nurses and midwives feature in the ads, filmed at three different locations, at work, morning through until night.
“Nurses, midwives and the general public will also have the opportunity to share the ads on social media and go to the ANF web page to show their support for nurses and midwives.”
The ANF, with over 220,000 members, is the professional and industrial voice for nurses, midwives and assistants in nursing in Australia.
