Statement from the ANMF in the wake of the Christchurch terrorist attack

Tuesday 19th March, 2019

In the wake of the Christchurch terrorist attack, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) is calling on all politicians to take a united stance in condemning hate speech and acting on far-right extremism infiltrating our society.

Federal Secretary Annie Butler says at this time of extreme grief and sorrow, Australian nurses and midwives will continue to promote harmony and friendship, celebrate diversity and advocate for racial, religious and social cohesion, and gender equality.

We stand with our nursing and midwifery colleagues from Aoreatoa New Zealand and pay tribute to the nurses, doctors and teams of brave first responders who’ve worked around the clock in caring for the wounded and injured and their families throughout the tragedy and who will continue to care for the grieving as their nation recovers.
