The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation is now the largest union in Australia with over 249,000 members. The ANMF is run by nurses and midwives to advance the industrial, political and professional status of our members.
We believe that high quality, affordable and accessibly health care is the right of every Australian. We are proud of the work that our members do, in every health setting, every hospital, nursing home, GP clinic, community health practice, in rural and remote Australia and in large hospitals in big cities.
If you are a registered or enrolled nurse, midwife, assistant in nursing or doing nursing work, the ANMF is the union for you. When you join one of our branches, we will be there when you need us.
Welcome to the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation.
We stand up for all Australians
Universal healthcare and high quality patient care is central to what we do as nurses, midwives and assistants in nursing. Recent threats to Medicare and proposed co-payments for GP visits are a real concern to the ANMF. We will fight to ensure that Medicare remains free for all Australians, and that politicians and health bureaucrats understand that more funding for healthcare, not less, should be a priority.
Safe patient care and protecting the public are our priorities.
We are part of the International Nursing and Midwifery Family
The ANMF works with nurses and midwives internationally through links with other national and international nursing organisations, professional associations and the International Labour Organisations. The ANMF is a member of Global Nurses United, the Commonwealth Nurses Federation and the South Pacific Nurses Forum and is affiliated to the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), International Centre for Trade Union Rights and Union Aid Abroad, and the International Council of Nurses.
