The ANMF conducted a survey between 22 June and 25 August 2023 to explore the experiences of nurses (registered and enrolled) and personal care workers working in aged care following the Federal Governments’ direct care time, RN 24/7, and other reforms. The survey was open to any aged care staff, residential and community, working in Australia but was advertised by the ANMF and its State and Territory Branches and so primarily recruited ANMF members.

The ANMF conducted a survey from 18 January to 11 February 2022 to explore the experiences of nurses, midwives, and assistants in nursing/personal care workers/aged care workers regarding the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic. The survey primarily focussed on the period of time since 1 December 2021 which roughly marks when many Australian State/Territory borders and social restrictions were eased and the SARS-CoV-2 ‘Omicron’ variant of concern began to emerge in Australia. This second report focusses solely on responses gathered from participants who worked in acute care settings (i.e. public and private hospitals).

This report by the Centre for International Corporate Tax Accountability & Research (CICTAR) examines the financial practices of several publicly-listed and not-for-profit nursing home operators over the last two years, a period when aged care operators had received additional subsidies to assist in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In meeting the challenges posed by COVID-19 our nation’s focus has primarily been on ensuring the continued delivery of world-class healthcare in the face of potentially overwhelming demand. The pandemic however, continues to challenge our welfare in other ways, not least of which is the impact we are seeing throughout our economy.

This report presents the final results of the Aged Care COVID-19 Survey following the preliminary report. The survey aimed to assess aged care workers’ sense of their employer’s preparedness to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic and the strategies that had been put in place as well as identify the key challenges and major gaps in the aged care sector’s response to COVID-19 from the perspective of those providing direct care to older Australians.

This report produced in May 2020 presents the preliminary results of the Aged Care COVID-19 Survey conducted from 15 April to 6 May 2020, with the final report following.

This report presents the results of the 2019 ANMF National Aged Care Survey of 2,775 aged care sector staff. The study followed up on the previous 2016 National Aged Care Survey identifying and examining key contemporary issues regarding participants’ concerns and experiences with the Australian aged care system.

A Centre for International Corporate Tax Accountability & Research (CICTAR) report looking at 9 large non-profits, some of which are among Australia’s largest aged care operators and covers the largest non-profit operators in every state and in the Northern Territory. This report follows detailed analysis of the largest for-profit aged care companies and the largest family-owned aged care companies which have both been submitted to the Royal Commission.

A Tax Justice Network – Australia and Centre for International Corporate Tax Accountability & Research (CICTAR) report prepared by Jason Ward examining Australia’s six largest family-owned aged care companies.

The report examining tax avoidance in the rapidly-growing aged care sector was prepared by Jason Ward from the Tax Justice Network, on behalf of the ANMF. Australia’s top six aged care providers, some with foreign ownership, posted enormous profits whilst taking advantage of AUD $2.17 billion in Australian taxpayer funded subsidies, using various loopholes, corporate structures and discretionary trusts to avoid paying their fair share of tax.

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) National Aged Care Staffing and Skills Mix Project in 2016 was the first of its kind in Australia and collected evidence relating to the need for a staffing methodology that considers both staffing levels (the right number) and skills mix (the right qualification) for residential aged care.

This report quantifies the net direct and indirect implications of implementing the recommendations of the ANMF National Aged Care Staffing and Skills Mix report.
