Primary Health Care
We advocate on a national level for nurses, midwives and care workers in primary care, promoting fair pay, safe conditions, working to full scope of practice and meaningful sector reform.
Primary care is vital for a sustainable healthcare system. It is where most people first seek support, build long-term therapeutic relationships, and receive preventive, chronic, and community-based care. Through coordinated advocacy efforts, collective bargaining, and the power of a united voice, the ANMF is striving for greater understanding and recognition to the depth, complexity, and impact of the care nurses, midwives and carers have everyday.
Unleashing the Potential of our Health Workforce – Scope of Practice Review, made several recommendations to support nurses and midwives in working to their full scope of practice in primary care. The ANMF advocates for these recommendations to be implemented and supports reforms that strengthens workforce sustainability, expands access to timely care, and recognises the leadership and expertise nurses and midwives bring to communities across the health sector.
The ANMF is actively supporting and advocating for nurse and midwife-led models of care in primary health settings. Through policy submissions, stakeholder engagement and championing scope of practice reform, we are working to highlight how these models improve access, continuity and cost-effectiveness of care.
