Nursing and midwifery registration renewal – late fee waived until 15 June

16 May 2025

To give nurses and midwives more time to complete their renewal in the new Ahpra portal, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia has waived late fees for practitioners who renew before 15 June.

The deadline has been extended with many nurses and midwives across the country experiencing difficulties with the new registration renewal process which includes multifactor authentication.

Issues raised by ANMF members include those without access to smart phones and/or personal computers are struggling to register, the lack of a PayPal option to make payment, authenticator apps not being universally understood and long delays/inability to get through on the Ahpra phone helpline.

Ahpra has advised that nurses and midwives will remain registered until 30 June and if they renew before 15 June, they will not pay a late fee.

"We understand that some nurses and midwives are experiencing difficulties with the new processes. No nurse or midwife will lose their registration or be removed from the public register if we see that they have tried to set up their portal and register.

"In June, Ahpra will work with nurses and midwives who require additional assistance in setting up their new Ahpra portal and to renew their registration," said an Ahpra spokesperson.

Ahpra has also extended its customer service team hours, which are now 8am to 8pm AEST.

Practitioners are encouraged to visit the online portal help centre for step-by-step guides, videos and troubleshooting tips for setting up their portal.
