Modern Awards

Modern Awards are documents which set the legal minimum wages and working conditions in a particular industry.

Under the Fair Work Act 2009 (FW Act), modern awards apply nationally for specific industries and occupations.

Most ANMF members are covered by collective agreements, however those who are not are usually covered by the:

Nurses Award 2020;
Aged Care Award 2020 (personal carers working in aged care);
Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award 2020 (nurses in private schools)

Modern awards made by the Fair Work Commission provide the legal minimum for wages and working conditions for workers covered by the FW Act.

Nurses and midwives in the public health sector, private hospitals and many aged care facilities are normally covered by a collective agreement which provide additional wages and working conditions.

While there is some degree of consistency, wages and conditions can vary depending on the relevant State/Territory and the specific area of nursing.
