ANMF (Vic Branch) begins work on a Reconciliation Action Plan
04 November 2022ANMF (Vic Branch) has begun work on a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The ANMF Federal Office has endorsed their Federal Office RAP, which provides a framework for the Vic Branch to commence on our reconciliation journey via our own Reflect RAP.
Under the governance of Reconciliation Australia, RAPs are designed to enable organisations to sustainably and strategically take meaningful action to advance reconciliation.
Based around the core pillars of relationships, respect and opportunities, RAPs provide tangible and substantive benefits for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, increasing economic equity and supporting First Nations self-determination.
There are four types of RAP: Reflect, Innovate, Stretch and Elevate. These allow organisations to continuously develop their reconciliation commitments. Each RAP type has mandatory actions and deliverables to be met in order to receive Reconciliation Australia’s endorsement. The Branch has begun the initial work on a Reflect RAP.
Reflect RAPs are the first RAP for most organisations, and have a 12- to 18-month timeline. They lay out the foundations and prepare a workplace for future RAPs and reconciliation initiatives. A Reflect RAP is a public commitment, and is published on Reconciliation Australia’s website.
The Branch recognises the health impacts of discrimination and is committed to improving the ability, opportunity and dignity of those who are marginalised or disadvantaged because of their identity to participate in our community.
A key strategic objective is to contribute to reconciliation with and closing the gap in life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians.
A representative working group has been formed, consistent with requirements and is currently in the process of establishing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representation. The group will meet regularly over the timeline of the RAP, and the Branch will communicate its progress to members.
