Anti-Poverty Weeks 2023
15 October 2023For the first time in its 21-year history, Anti-Poverty Week will run for two weeks from 15-27 October, incorporating Children’s Week.
During Anti-Poverty Weeks, leading academics, policy-makers and community organisations will shed light on poverty in Australia and how to end it, especially child poverty, with a range of webinars, community barbeques, information expos and research report launches. In Canberra and Adelaide key landmarks will light up in blue.
It’s not right that more than 1 in 6 Australian children are growing up in poverty. Growing up in poverty is simply bad for children, it diminishes their physical and mental health, reduces their readiness for school and attainment in school, and the effects can last well into adulthood.
Let’s make sure that all Australian children and families can cover the basics and have a secure roof over their heads. All children can thrive and be healthy when they have what they need to develop well. In 2023 we are calling for all our Parliamentarians to legislate to #EndChildPoverty.
Visit the Anti-Poverty Week website for more information and ways that you can get involved, including State, Territory and National events and signing the petition to end child poverty.
